Basic Daily Routines

The daily routine for each age group provides a wide variety of stimulating activities designed to promote and broaden key aspects of a child's development. Each day is planned and implemented by the managers and key workers to satisfy structured overrall educational and development goals.


Daily Routine for 0-2 yrs

The staff ratio for 0-2 year olds is set at a minimum of 1 member of staff to 3 children

This is the basic routine that we follow everyday and we are flexible to childrens own routines when it comes to bottle feeding times and sleep times

All nappies are checked routinely at 10:30, 12:30, 14:30 and 16:30 and action taken to ensure children remain comfortable throughout the day if neccessary.

 7.30 - 9.45

Children arrive at nursery. Structured free choice activities - helping children settle into the day

 8.00 - 9.00

Breakfast time - children provided with breakfast sit down together to eat

 9.45 - 10.00

Story, song/nursery rhyme time - developing early Communication, Language and Literacy skills
followed by handwashing - learning good hygiene skills

10.00 - 10.30

Snack time - tasting different fruits, exploring different textures and developing social skills

10.30 - 11.45

Planned activties and Messy play - developing skills in a range of activities such as; 
Hand-eye coordination when Block Building, mark-making when Finger Painting

11.45 - 12.00

Story, song/nursery rhyme time - developing early Communication, Language and Literacy skills
followed by handwashing - learning good hygiene skills

12.00 - 12.30

Lunch time - developing new tastes and social skills

12.30 - 14.45

Rest / Quiet time / Structured free play - toys are set out for the children to play with that still
develop their skills i.e. the Pop-up toys develop early ICT skills (pressing buttons and lifting flaps)

14.45 - 15.00

Story, song/nursery rhyme time - developing early Communication, Language and Literacy skills
followed by handwashing - learning good hygiene skills

15.00 - 15.30

Snack time - tasting different foods; sandwiches, rice cakes and breadsticks,
exploring different textures and developing social skills

15.30 - 17.00

Planned activties and Messy play - developing skills in a range of activities such as;
Taste and texture with Jelly play, sensory and rhythm development with musical instuments

17.00 - 18.00

Tea time and structured free choice activities - settling children toward the end of the day

Daily Routine for 2-5 yrs

The staff ratio for 2-3 year olds is set at a minimum of 1 member of staff to 4 children 

The staff ratio for 3-5 year olds is set at a minimum of 1 member of staff to 8 children.

Continuous outdoor provision between 9.30 and 17.00

Sand and water is always available indoors and out.

 7.30 - 9.30

ARRIVAL - Self registration, making choices, social interaction, developing self confidence, 'School readiness' skills.
FREE CHOICE PLAY
INSIDE PLAY - Child led cross circular activities to help children settle into the day
OUTSIDE PLAY - including sand/water/writing/number games/physical challenges/Free choice play daily

Breakfast (8-9am)
Outside activities start (8.30am)

 9.30 - 9.50

CIRCLE TIME
-Split into 2-3 years and 3-5 years groups 
Include welcome song, number songs, thumbs up feedback, action songs, sharing news, letter and sounds listening activities.

 9.50 - 10.30

STRUCTURED FREE PLAY
Rolling snack time (2-3 years)
Key worker group pre school activities for individual observations on a 1:1 basis (3-5 years, 2x20 mins) Number, colour, space and shape, letter recognition, Jolly phonics and days of the week. 

 9.30 - 11.50

FOCUSED KEY WORKER led activities for all
Linked to six areas of ELG and individual development needs (3x20 mins)

 11.50 - 12.00

Follow my leader/group snake walk
Physical activity involving listening to instructions inside and out, moving in different ways, hand washing routines and settling down for lunch.

 12.00- 13.00

LUNCH - PSRN skills
Table manners, communication skills, likes and dislikes, trying new things, taking turns and sharing.

13.00 - 14.00

STRUCTURED FREE PLAY - all children 
Staff carrying out observations and extending children's play through opening questioning techniques.

14.00 - 14.50

FOCUSED KEY WORKER ACTIVITIES
Linked to six areas of ELG and individual development needs (2x20 mins)

14.50 - 15.15

STORY TIME for all
Extended literacy work for 3-5 years around the story
Free play for 2-3 years linked to story stimulus 

15.15 - 15.45

Group snack - PSRN skills
 (Please, thank you, sharing etc) followed by FREE PLAY.

 15.45 - 16.15

QUIET ACTIVITY - KEY WORKER LED 
- letters and sounds, number songs and rhymes, circle games.

16.15- 16.45 STORY TIME or FREE CHOICE READING
 16.45-18.00 FREE CHOICE PLAY
